Telemedicine Extended for Medical Marijuana

Our Florida State Surgeon General Scott Rivkees extend an emergency order which allows telemedicine to be used for some prescription renewals.   The greatest thing about all this, as far as we are concerned at least, is that medical marijuana is covered. The original order, which ran out this week, permitted temporarily doctors to use telemedicine only if they are recertifying patients who have an existing certification issued by the certified physician.

The sad part about it is, if you don’t have a Florida medical marijuana card, then this doesn’t apply to you. However, if your medical marijuana card is about to expire at least you can renew it by visiting your doctor in the comfort of your own home.

Here is language from the original order:

“For purposes of preparing for, responding to, and mitigating any effect of COVID-19, qualified physicians under section 381.986, Florida Statutes, may issue a physician certification only for an existing qualified patient with an existing certification that was issued by that qualified physician without the need to conduct a physical examination while physically present in the same room as the patient,”
