What is CBD Oil?

When you think of CBD, some form of CBD oil comes to mind.  But what is CBD oil? How is it made?  CBD oil can be derived from two different plants: hemp and cannabis.  The difference has little to do with the CBD and much to do with another component of the plant, which is THC.  Hemp contains less than .3% THC on a dry weight basis. Oils can be derived from both plants, but CBD oil derived from hemp is legal in all 50 states.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is made from an extraction procedure that pulls out the essential oils from the hemp plant.  Fortunately, CBD, and all cannabinoids for that matter, are fats and can be extracted from the hemp plant with a simple essential oil extraction process. That being said CBD oil can come in many forms.  The most popular of those forms is a CBD tincture or a sublingual dropThese can be used by placing the oil under your tongue which helps with more rapid absorption.

These CBD tinctures are traditionally used by dropping the oil under your tongue, but they can be used in more ways than one.  Many people have had success using CBD oil as a topical application or even infusing it in food.

CBD Oil Ingredients

CBD tinctures can be both very strong or very week.  It really depends on the strength of the tincture, other ingredients found in the tincture, and the reputability of the company making the tincture.

CBD companies can make their oil as strong or as weak as they like.  This is done by adding a cutting agent to the oil.  Originally tinctures used grain alcohol to dilute the CBD oil, but this isn’t ideal.  Using alcohol for your tincture might make for an easy extraction but can also taste really bad, and really isn’t necessary.
